ME, MOM & MATCHES
BEING THE DOG OF A COMPETITIVE SHOOTER
BEING THE DOG OF A COMPETITIVE SHOOTER
Mom being a competitive shooter is travelling a lot. And I mean A lot! The fun part about it is, that I am with her. All the time, no matter where she goes.
Being used to a dog kennel, my “safe space” I was happy to get one for the car too. Before that I was slipping around in the boot and couldn´t sleep properly, cause whenever I fell asleep either I was slipping towards a bag or even worse: that bag pushed me aside.
I also like it when I get enough fresh and cool air, even when mom is busy. I am safe in there. Mom always locks my box in the car and then leaves the car open. That means I am way more precious than the car to her. I like that.
We mostly show up at matches on the day of the prematch. This part is my favourite!
Walking and sniffing around and meeting friends. Mom´s friends, but slowly there are also more and more of my dog friends on ranges. When we walk around I am proudly wearing my earmuffs. I don´t like the glasses mom also bought, cause she doesn´t get me anymore when we have no eye contact. But my earmuffs I like. On my first matches I even learned how to pose for pictures with my cool outfit. Many people came like “oh, can I take a picture, that´s so cute!” And hey, which girl doesn´t like to hear that! Some people say, earmuffs for dogs are not necessary. But I don´t agree with that, they are just not very handy for hunting. When mom and I walk around during a match there is a lot of shooting in a very short time and I don´t have to retrieve anything, so that makes it more necessary but at the same time easier to protect my hearing. Match days, when mom is shooting are not so funny. But mostly because I have to get up so early and go for a walk with mom. As if she doesn´t have enough exercise during the day! During the match I sleep in my box in the car. At home I do exactly the same! But at matches chances are high that someone else (one of mom´s friends) shows up and takes me for a walk. That´s great! At the last match in Italy even a whole family took me out! That was fun! Every now and then mom also shows up. Sometimes I can also come with her when she is shooting. Then I wait at the stage for her to finish shooting. And sometimes I can even go with her to set up plates again – like we always do in training sessions! But of course, this is not allowed everywhere. At lunchtime or after the match is always party time for me! Many people and secretly given food all around. How wonderful is that! In Italy they don´t even do anything secretly regarding good food and drinking. After my first match I got cake, Prosciutto, fantastic cheese and Prosecco (a little bit until mom realised it!). So, in case you ever feel sorry for me when you see me in the car at a match – don´t! I am perfectly fine! I need this sleeping time for all the fun that´s around before, during and after the match! See you on the the range soon!
